questions and answers for new fire performers

Is it just an expensive hobby??
at first yeah... it's about $70 or so to get set up, but after that, it's just fuel, which is waay cheap.

Oh, what is spin off??  Is that what comes off the wick when you are spinning??
yes, it's just as you suspected.

I know dumb question.
the dumb questions are the ones you don't ask that get you set on fire. it's a good question.

I was reading on fuels and there were comparing spin off.  How is this important??
ok, it's important because some fuels are thicker and greasier, so don't evaporate as quickly.  and if you don't spin out well enough (by spinning the extra fuel off before you light) lit fuel could spin off into the crowd while you are dancing and fire near anyone not being watched by a person with a wet towel in their hands is just bad, um kay.

Can you catch on fire from this??
you could catch fire by hitting yourself, and the extra fuel that hasn't been spun off can burn you because it will be on fire from your wicks.

There were saying it's hard to clean off.  What are their concerns with that??
mostly just having a slippery floor if you are using lamp oil, but with white gas there's also the concern of it lighting if it doesn't evaporate before you get to it with fire.
but getting to white gas with fire is fun. especially if it's on the ground in a place that won't hurt anything or anyone else.

i don't mind answering questions... this is an art that i love. i love dancing to some funky tune with fire twirling around my not-always-clothed body. it's a good thing.
i always just use my regular poi, and if i can't light them i have led/photon thingys.
